Is Just Math Learning Centers a franchise?

Answer:

No, Just Math Leaning Centers is not affiliated with any large corporation which allows Just Math to be flexible enough to follow local schools' curriculum.  We feel it is vital to your child's success to support and supplement, when necessary, your child's current math program.  In addition, we have found introducing a proprietary curriculum, which large corporate learning centers often do, tends to further confuse and frustrate the learning process.  Only during summer months do we introduce a proprietary curriculum; however, because of our large library containing the same material being taught by your child's math teachers, we feel confident in our process.  Our philosophy is to keep it as simple and as flexible as possible; we are not constrained by following a plan laid out by persons who are not familiar with your child's current curriculum.

What makes Just Math Learning Centers different from other learning centers?

Answer:

Just Math Learning Centers is unique in that we focus only on math.  We construct our 60-minute classes so that the student to teacher ratio is a maximum of 2:1.  Our experience has shown that most students who attend sessions once a week that last 60 minutes receive the appropriate level of support, without the risk of "burn out".  We also take great pride in placing the students with the appropriate tutor and in groups with other students facing similar challenges.  We do not charge additional fees for enrollment, materials, or any assessment testing we may conduct for our students.  Also, we only ask that our students enroll for a 4-week minimum.  Other learning centers charge many additional fees, and require much longer commitments from their clients.  Additionally, we know that students tend to need some homework support throughout the week, so we provide unlimited telephone homework support to our enrolled students during our regular business hours at no additional charge.

What happens if my child misses a class?

Answer:

If a student is not able to attend his/her class, we ask that you notify us as soon as possible.  We will make every effort to schedule a make-up class for you.  The only time that a parent is charged for a class that a student does not attend is when we do not receive notification of the student's absence prior to his/her scheduled class time.

What if there is a scheduling conflict?

Answer:

We know that students participate in many extracurricular activities that can affect their schedule.  If a situation arises and a student can no longer attend his/her regularly scheduled class time, we will make every effort to find another appropriate class for the student.

Why aren't all of your tutors credentialed?

Answer:

Our instructors who work with our elementary students do have teaching credentials.  However, some of our instructors who work with our upper-level high school students do have degrees in mathematics or engineering and have teaching and/or tutoring experience.  All of our instructors have their special area of expertise.  We hire instructors who are not only knowledgeable, but who are patient and capable of tailoring their teaching style to fit each individual student's needs.

Do SAT Prep courses really work?

Answer:

We can't say prep courses obtain the desired results or fail to deliver on the promise.  We do believe that anytime a student is "taught to the test", something is lost in the educational process.  It is Just Math's policy to teach the student the subject matter and to coach the student on study skills and test taking techniques.

Why doesn't Just Math combine SAT Prep in your curriculum?

Answer:

While we do not offer a course that solely focuses on SAT Prep., we certainly assist students with preparation for the math portion of the SAT.  Our primary goal is to teach the students the specific math concepts they need to know.  Once we are confident that they have mastered those concepts, we will work on study skills and test-taking strategies, and simulate testing conditions for the students to desensitize them to the fear of taking the SAT.

What about the California High School Exit Exam?

Answer:

The California High School Exit Exam may cause some anxiety for both you and your children.  Just Math believes that every child can pass the exam.  If your child is experiencing difficulties with math, we believe that last-minute options presented by other math tutoring centers will not be as effective as trying to solve the underlying cause of their confusion. We believe in giving your child the absolute best possible chance to pass the exit exam and, in addition, the real chance to score better in the SATs.  The key to your child's success is preparation, not last- minute cramming.  Just Math will work with your child at his or her current math skill level and present the exact curriculum being taught by his or her math teacher.  We believe if your child is properly prepared in math through classroom instruction or tutoring, the California High School Exit Exam, and/or any other math exam, will no longer be a source of angst.
